Working in the Wee Hours

When do you work? Is it when you are most productive or when you think you should work?

Some people get rather caught up in the whole 9-5 deal and continue it when they start working from home! While having a schedule is always good, it might be time to rethink your approach.

Are you more productive early in the morning? Late at night? Why not adjust your work hours to fit your most alert times? Some people who are night owls might find it easier to work from 5 pm to midnight, while those of you who tend to be early risers may find that 4 am to noon works best. There´s nothing wrong with working those hours.

Personally, I work early in the morning. It isn´t because I´m a morning person, I used to be a night owl before I had kids! But now, my baby wakes up at 3-4 am and won´t sleep again until my firstborn is starting to shuffle around in his crib. This means that I need to hit the sack around 8 pm, when I used to really start working.

So, due to necessity, I now work from 3 or 4 in the morning until 6 or 7 when my toddler rises and then again in the afternoon, once my husband gets home. It may seem weird, but it works for me. So, when do you work?

  1. But how do you cope with less sleep? That’s what I haven’t mastered yet.
