Why “how to” Learning is Essential

I`ve been using Firefox as my browser for a long time now. A couple of years, maybe. And all this time, when I download an ebook, a Photoshop action or brush or a program, it has saved to the desktop. My normal procedure was to pretty much wait until my background was covered with little download icons and then spend an hour sorting through everything and putting it into the right folder.

A total waste of time, right?

The ONLY reason that I did things this way is because I didn`t take the time to learn how to change Firefox`s settings to let me choose where I want my files saved. It wasn`t immediately obvious and I kept thinking, “Oh, it`s not worth the time to search on how to fix this.”

Do you have something that you`ve just let be even though there is a better way to do it . . . you just don`t know how? I`m willing to bet I`m not the only one out there like this!

It might seem easier to leave it and figure you don`t have the time to spend looking for a solution but in many cases, doing it the right way will save time and money. Not to mention frustration! I have probably spent at least a day`s worth of time over the past couple of years, sorting files that could have been organized from the get go. And I`ve probably spent many hours more sifting through them looking for that one file I wanted to read or listen to! That`s time that could have been spent on other things like this blog.

If you have a niggling little thing like this that you`ve been avoiding, I challenge you to learn how to fix it today. I just did a quick search on the Firefox thing and it turns out it is as simple as clicking on Tools, Options and Main, then changing my settings. Duh. That could have been done two years ago!
