When Failure is a Good Thing

Most people look at failure as something terrible. After all, when you failed in school, that big red F meant you were getting a stern talking to by your parents or perhaps more. If you tell anyone who isn`t a business person that you`ve had a failed business, chances are the response was not very positive. But failure is really a good thing, particularly in the case of business.

I have had many businesses, having started from the time I was fairly young with business ideas. Some of them were good and worked just fine. Some weren`t such a good idea, or were great ideas that I failed to research and execute properly. Most entrepreneurs have a similar background and there`s nothing to be ashamed of.

Failure is only bad if you learn nothing from it.

At the moment of shutting down a dream or a business that just didn`t work, it can be difficult to look at it with objectivity, to see the good in it. But down the road, you will be able to look back and figure out just what went wrong . . . so you can avoid these things in future businesses.

Each failure is building a base for your success. Confucious said, “Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.” And it`s very true. You`ll never get anywhere if you just give up after you fail. Instead, use it to propell yourself forward and make the next attempt better. Eventually you`ll get to where you`re going!

What have you learned from failure? I`d love to hear from some work at home moms who have struggled to overcome the fall of a business.
