WAHMS: Too Busy To Cook?

Work at home moms just don`t have a lot of time on their hands. Sure, you`re home, but you have a business to run, kids underfoot, a house to keep semi-decent . . . it`s not easy. So it is no wonder moms are turning to these new fix-and-freeze franchises that offer a handy solution.

If you find that you just can`t plan for meals, these services are a handy way to solve that problem, as well as ensure that you get tons of meals prepared in as little time as possible.

The concept is simple. You go to the service`s website, view their menu and select the meals you want. These usually includes super tasty menu items like Jamaican Burgers and Pineapple Chicken.

Once you`ve selected your food, you book a session and then you go in to the commercial kitchen where everything is all ready for you. All the prep work is done, no chopping, dicing or slicing needed. Most of these fix-and-freeze services claim you can finish a meal in just 10 minutes and most meals serve 6.

Once you`ve finished your meals, you head home with your booty, to freeze it, while the service takes care of clean up. What could be better for a busy work at home mom?

The only issue here would be the price. You aren`t going to be able to pop into a commercial kitchen, use their ingredients and have professional chefs help you for nothing. Still, if you tend to order take-out on nights that you just can`t deal with cooking, the prices really aren`t that bad!

One of the most prevalent services that I found was Dream Dinners, aka. “the grandmother of fix-and-freeze”. Dream Dinners is available just about everywhere in the US, but you can also find specific services in your own area.

What do you think? Is it worth it to try one of these services? Would you or have you tried one?

  1. I used to use these services when I was going to school. I used Dream Dinners as well as one called Meal Maker. The food would get about 3 stars out of a possible 5, and the prices seemed a bit steep for the portion sizes, but I still used them solidly for a few months.

I think I just really enjoyed going to the kitchens and preparing all that food en masse. Now I just find it cheaper and easier to throw something in the crockpot in the morning.

  2. I hope you have a wonderful Dream Dinners experience. We actually have children on our tasting panels; it is amazing to see what kids will really eat. We put kids in a box when we only feed them “white foods”. Don’t miss the August menu, our guests voted for their favorites to be on the August Menu.
