5 Reasons You Should Be Using Squidoo

I love Squidoo. It’s a fun platform to express yourself on, but more than that, it can really give your site a traffic boost. In fact, there are a lot of reasons to be using this very versatile content network.

1. Drive traffic. Squidoo is a great way to boost your website traffic. If you do a search on Google for “computer chairs for overweight people”, for example, you’ll notice that there is a Squidoo page in the top ten results. That’s mine. ;) I don’t actually have a website to link to on that page, but let me tell you, it does pull in the traffic! I have a lens (Squidoo’s name for webpage) that links to At Home Mom and it consistently sends 100+ visitors a month to this blog. Not too shabby for something that took 30 min. to set up and hasn’t been touched since!

2. Earn money. I’m not getting rich on Squidoo, but there are people who bring in over a grand every month on the site. In November, my payment from them was just over $110.  If you do things right, you can end up with a lot of small, targeted webpages earning money without any further work. Now, I don’t recommend putting all your time into the site just to earn a few dollars, but if you’re promoting your website anyway, throw up some affiliate links, add a few Amazon or Zazzle modules and gain some cash.

3. Establish yourself as an expert. Being in the top results for your niche on Google is a big deal. That means more people will be reading what YOU have to say about the topic than someone on the third page and that will help you be seen as an expert. And people buy from experts.

4. Get added exposure. If you have a product or service you’re selling off your own website, that doesn’t mean it ends there. Why not whip up a Squidoo page telling more about your products or services? Include lots of photos, a link to your site, but make it worth reading on its own. Often, Squidoo pages will show up before your private site in search results, so this gives you another way of getting your products in front of buyers.

5. Give something back. You can set your lenses to give all or a percentage of your earnings on Squidoo to the charity of your choice. Even if you don’t want to do that, you can add a charity donation button to your lens and let visitors donate money to a worthy cause.

If you’re not on Squidoo yet, you should be. It’s free and can be great publicity!
