Using Challenges to Stay Accountable

There are a lot of challenges going on out there. If you have a specific interest, chances are, you`re going to find like-minded people setting up stints to practice a skill or to push themselves further.

Challenges can be a great way to really learn what you are capable of. When you are accountable to a group of people, backing out suddenly seems more intimidating! But it goes far beyond just feeling bad if you quit.

There is a camaraderie that exists among those who are doing challenges. Usually, there is a forum where you can start talking with others, posting about your problems and worries and you will be amazed at how much support there is! The opportunity to meet new people who are there for the same reason you are and who can offer you a kind word or a little advice when you need it is even better than finishing the challenge. You could easily end up with long term friends and contacts.

As long as you don`t take on too many challenges at once, this can be a good way to move forward and to build on your business, as well as your personal life. A few examples of challenges I`ve done in the past couple of years:

30 Day Challenge (for internet marketing)
3-Day Green Smoothie Challenge (drinking two green smoothies per day)
30 Articles in 30 Days (totally failed this one because I did it at the same time as the two above! Don`t overwhelm yourself!)
Body Enlightenment System (Just starting this one. You can follow the progress here)

If you have an interest, there is a challenge out there for it. Try searching on Google for the main words (ie. “health” or “email marketing”) and add “challenge”. You might be surprised at the number of opportunities you have to really push yourself.

What challenges have you participated in? How did you do?

  1. Hi Genesis,

Just wanted to say that I’ve started reading your blog. I’m wondering if you have heard about the book, “What Men Don’t Tell Women About Business”. I heard the guy (Chris Flett) on the Today Show and thought you probably have already heard of him. I’m wondering what your thoughts were. He seems to be really taking on the ‘Old Boys Club”. I just emailed him, but haven’t heard back.

Anyway, keep up the great writing.

    Best,

    Bihter.

  2. Cheers for Green Smoothies :)

  3. Hi Genesis,

I’ve been doing some additional research on the author, Chris Flett, that I talked about on my last comment. His company is “GhostCEO” (www.GhostCEO.com) and his book is a bestseller. I found it on Amazon here. Anyway, he was in the NY Times last Sunday under the “Career Couch” and he makes reference to women’s blogs like yours so I thought you might like to connect. I’d like to see you interview him and see what he’s all about. I saw on another blog he was a guest blogger. His email is: chris@ghostceo.com

    Best wishes,

    Bihter.
