Top Home Business Ideas for Moms with Small Children

It can be tough to start a home business and look after kids, but particularly if you are doing so with very small kids. Babies and toddlers don´t go off to school or preschool and they tend to need a lot more attention than older children who can entertain themselves for a while. So, as a result, the best home business ideas for moms with small children are those that don´t require a lot of concentration or too much time away from children.

1.  Sewing. Any type of sewing can easily be nterrupted for a hug or a story and most sewing jobs aren´t particularly time sensitive. Whether you choose to do custom clothing or hemming for others or create your own clothing or toys, sewing is a great home business for work at home moms with little children.

2. Toys. Hey, you have at least one built-in tester, right? Why not put your kids to work trying out the toys you design? Wooden, cloth or other materials, it doesn´t matter. You have the expertise and helpers needed to design and make some really great toys.

3. Daycare. Having other small children around for your little ones to play with could be just the home business you´re looking for. And what´s a few more added to the herd?

4. Gardening. This is fairly seasonal unless you have a heated greenhouse or live in a tropical area, but growing herbs or flowers to sell is ideal for work at home moms with little ones. Babies enjoy kicking in their bouncy seats out of doors, while toddlers have a natural affinity for dirt. Just make sure you keep seedlings out of reach!

5.  Writing. This is something you can do while the kids are asleep and if you are good at writing, you can be earning some pretty decent money. Even better, write a couple of books and you could be earning while spending time with your children.

  1. I am a virtual assistant, and so far it’s working out well both working from home and being a full-time mother of two. My business hours are not conventional, as most daytime hours are spent with my boys. The ability to set my own hours means I’m free to do this and then work after they are in bed. It’s exhausting, but completely worth it- the freedom is like nothing else!
