The Power of a Day Off

One huge problem with working at home is that it can be nearly impossible to take time off. When your office is in the next room or your laptop is sitting on the kitchen counter, it`s a simple thing to sit down to work for a few minutes while you have your morning coffee, while the kids have breakfast, during naps and after they`ve gone to bed. Working at home often means ALWAYS working and that isn`t necessarily a good thing.

As moms, we do need to adapt, so working when you can and still making time to nurture your family is usually what you have to do. But it`s also important to know when to take a day off. I`m not talking about taking a break, or enjoying a television show with your husband before zipping back to the computer, but actually getting away from work, shutting it off and doing other stuff for the entire day.

Taking that time off can be very beneficial in many ways:

  • Hang out with your family without glancing at your watch
  • Take the day to get out and do something like go to a water park or the zoo
  • Come back to work with a fresh perspective
  • Catch up a bit on sleep and be more awake the following day
  • Ease some of the stress that comes with non-stop work
  • Feel nicer . . . I know I tend to snap at my kids more when I haven`t had a break in a while!

How often do you take an entire day off?
