Take Advantage of Your Resources
We all have resources available to us, even if we don`t really consider them to be resources. The problem for many work at home moms is that they simply don`t feel comfortable taking other people up on their offers or asking for help.
This is an area that I have personally struggled with. It`s just not in me to seek out someone who can help me with a problem I have, because I might bother them. However, when you are running a business, you need to be more aggressive and take action to promote your business! No more hanging back in the shadows, this won`t get you anywhere.
How often have you heard someone say, “I`d love to watch your kids, just let me know when!” Or offer to do something else for you? And how often have you smiled and nodded and thanked them, knowing full well that you will never take them up on that offer because you aren`t sure they mean it or you don`t want to take up their precious time?
If someone has put themselves out there, why not accept their offer? You certainly don`t have to be a bother, offer an exchange! If someone helps you out by Stumbling your website, then you can do the same for them. If they watch your children for an hour so you can meet a deadline, take them some fresh baked cookies or perhaps one of your products, later on to say thanks. There`s absolutely nothing wrong with accepting help, as long as you aren`t assuming that everyone will just drop what they are doing to give you what you need.
Make sure you thank the person after they`ve helped you and you`ll guarantee that they won`t regret it.
A few things that people often volunteer to do and you should take them up on:
- Stumbling, Digging or otherwise bookmarking your website
- Proofing an article or letter
- Childcare
- Lessons in anything from cooking to computers
- Extra help with wrapping or packaging products
- Car pooling
- Pet sitting or watching your house while you travel
Letting others help you isn`t a crime. In fact, you can do it right back and a cycle of good deeds is begun. Not to mention, your business will benefit from it! So get over that nervousness and start accepting people`s offers.
