Step Away From the Computer . . .

A change of scenery can be a great way to boost your productivity and creativity, but when you work online or spend a lot of time on the computer . . . how do you manage a change of scenery?

If you have a laptop, you can obviously move around, from room to room or even head to the local Starbucks, but while the scenery around you may change, your eyes are glued to the same screen and that in itself can actually bring your productivity levels down. Have you ever found yourself staring at the screen, drawing a blank? That´s when you need to shut down the computer and leave.

I´m not suggesting that you quit working, far from it. Rather, do your work in a non-technical manner. For example, as a writer, I often take a regular old notebook and a pen and head outside to sit under a palm tree and write out ideas for articles. Just changing what is in front of your eyes can switch on that creativity that you need in order to keep working. Anyone in any field can do up some simple sketches on a notepad, list ideas or even just brainstorm with a friend while walking around the block.

Try it. Step away from the computer and you´ll be amazed at how much more productive you are!
