School Holiday Work Tips
School is officially out and work at home moms everywhere are stressing out. What do you do with these crazy kids? Suddenly, the day is filled with chaos and it‘s awfully hard to concentrate on your actual work. No matter what age your kids are, having them home all day can be a major distraction. Here are a few tips to keep things under control.
Work outside. Take your laptop or handwork and head to the beach or the park. While the kids are enjoying the great outdoors, you can be working away. It might not be the most productive day you‘ve ever had, but it beats being locked up in a house with children bouncing off the walls!
Hire a mother‘s helper. You might not like the idea of sending your kids off to daycare, but a mother‘s helper can be the perfect solution. Basically, a young girl comes to your house and keeps your little ones entertained while you get some work done. You are nearby, so if anything happens, you‘ll know about it.
Keep the snack cupboard full. Whether you let your kids eat granola bars or cookies, it is a good idea to keep some snacks in a cupboard that they can reach. Or make up snack packs with veggies and dip ahead of time and leave them in the fridge.
Stick with the school routine. Get up at the same time, even if your kids sleep in. Make up their lunches (and yours) and you won‘t have a major distraction at noon, everyone can sit down with their lunch boxes and eat together, no prep work to be done. Likewise, do the washing up like you normally would, in the evening.
Enroll them in a day camp. Day camps are great for keeping kids active and interested. They learn and participate in fun activities with their friends and you get some quiet time to work.
Give them attention. If your kids are school age, you can probably get away with spending an hour with them in the morning, doing a fun activity like pressing flowers or doing crafts, then you can leave them to it and get back to work.
Hire your kids. Need some help? Your kids keep asking for cash? The perfect solution is here! Just pay your kids to do things for you, whether around the house or business related. For example, if you have a candle-making business, your 10 year old could be in charge of trimming wicks to the right length and your 15 year old could be responsible for quality control and dipping.

Change your schedule. If you can manage it, just plan to work less during the summer months. After all, kids are only young for a short time, so why not enjoy it if you can? If you know that your business won‘t suffer too much by cutting back a few hours a day, then go for it and get out and play with your children!
