Old Fashioned Organization Methods that Work
With all the computer software and websites designed to help you stay organized, it´s easy to get caught up in a world of virtual organization. But that isn´t always the right choice for everyone. For example, I love being able to store information on my computer, but the truth is that I think better with a pen and pad of paper in my hand.
If you are an old fashioned work at home mom, you might still use one of these systems:
Post-Its: These sticky notes are great for putting reminders where you will actually see them. Sure, you could type a note into your Blackberry, but let´s face it . . . . a bright yellow Post-It on your mirror in the morning is the best reminder that the baby needs his medicine at 6:00 am!
File Folders: At the moment, I don´t have a lot of paperwork, mainly because my husband has the printer and transferring files over to print off rarely happens, but before leaving Canada, my file cabinet was my best friend. Even if you keep track of most items on your computer, it´s good to have a hard copy sometimes. Not to mention, file folders are a great place to keep receipts and assorted mail in order.
Notebooks: I confess, my notebook is where I keep my best ideas . . . or rather notebooks, since I have dozens of them. Sometimes it just helps to think on paper, something that is very different from typing on a computer screen. You can always transfer the keepers into digital format later on.
Index Cards: These handy cards can be the perfect place to scribble down a recipe or write out chapters for your new book so you can shuffle them around to find the perfect order. Index cards are very useful and still have a place in the digital age.
Do you use any of these old fashioned methods? Don´t be embarrassed! There´s no reason we should feel pressured to do everything on the computer, even if all your friends and family do so.

I can’t tell you what a breath of fresh air this was for me. I’ve been working online since ‘94 and STILL use sticky notes (all over my desk now as we speak) AND a calendar where I actually write things down instead of using one online.
My husband suggested I get a blackberry or something that could keep track of things “easier” for me but like you, I think better when I write it down as well.
Thanks for not letting me think I was the only one left on the planet who still did those things
Kristine, you are most definitely not the only person left on the planet using sticky notes and paper.
Though it might seem like it sometimes!
