Making It Easier to Comment
I`ve made some changes to At Home Mom in hopes of encouraging all my lurkers to come out of the closet and say hi.
I know you ladies are out there, so why not take a moment to let me know a bit about you? Where are you in your work at home journey? What are you looking for? How can I help you?
To help encourage you to comment, I`ve removed comment moderation . . . so you don`t have to wait for your comment to appear anymore. Instead, I`ve added a simple captcha (don`t worry, it`s not one of those wobbly, unreadable ones!) so you can get your comments published immediately. The only exception to the rule is any comment that has 2 or more links or that my spam filter catches, but I`ll be reviewing them frequently.
Also, there`s a new Top Commenters box on the right. Each week, it resets, so the top commenters will be getting a link to their site each week, but you have to keep coming back if you want to stay at the top of the list! Please, I`m trusting my readers not to make silly comments like “hi” or “Nice” just to scoot higher on the list.
Now, if I end up with billions of spam comments in the next while, I`ll have to revert back to the original methods, but hopefully it won`t come to that!
So, anyone want to start?

Hi Genesis,
OK I’ll start. My name is Sherri and I’m now a stay at home mom to two boys they are 18 months and 3 months. I love it!
I recently started a blog with my husband to document our personal development journey and to also write about things we like (Home & Organizing, being frugal and family).
I’ve been toying around with starting a website to sell handmade baby items I make but with the new legislation in the States I’m putting it off for now until I understand it a bit more.
I like your site and I hope you get a good response from all your lurkers
Have a great weekend!
Sherri
Thanks, Sherri! I appreciate you being the first to share. That new legislation has really thrown a scud into things for anyone wanting to produce handmade baby items, hasn`t it? I hope you are able to follow through on your dream!
Hi Genesis! You already know a bit about me because I did an interview for you a few weeks ago. (My first by the way~thank you!) But, for those who didn’t see it, here’s a bit more about me on a more personal level.
I am first and foremost a Christian. I am a mom of 4 kids, ages 16 to 25 and I have 2 grandsons who are 2 and 1/2 and 5 months old. Being Nana is the best thing in the world!!! If you have yet to experience being a Nana, believe me and the other who say it’s better than having your own kids. Now don’t get me wrong, I truly adore my own children, but words just can’t describe the joy in being Nana.
I am also a youth leader in our church and am around teens quite a bit. I have a heart to see this generation transformed for Christ. Having been through a pretty rough childhood, I understand a lot of what teens are going through today. Not all of it, but most of it, especially the abused, neglected and mistreated teens.
I am married to the most amazing man EVER, really! LOL.
I am a Virtual Assistant, a writer, blogger and social networking freak and I love it all. I just added custom header and banner creation to my list of services, which is super fun.
Okay, this is a really long comment so I’ll stop now!
Hi. Nice.
LOL! Just kidding Genesis!
I’ve been rethinking my comment policy lately too. At the moment I have comments on moderation, however if I’ve approved a person’s first comment then any further comments will be posted immediately. I’m not sure if I want to keep it that way or, or, or, something…
There are some good plugins for preventing spam comments, in fact I’m in the middle of writing a post about my favourite wordpress plug ins and WP-Spam-Free tops the list!
Hi, Mary! Long comments are welcome.
I read something once that said, “If I`d known being a Grandma was so much fun, I`d have done it first.”
Thanks for coming by and commenting, I really appreciate it!
LOL, Melinda. I`ll let you know how the more open commenting goes . . . so far so good, though your comment did tip the moderation scale because you used the word “spam”. Whoops.
Let us know when you`re finished your wordpress article, I`m always on the lookout for new plugins. In fact, you know of one that helps you comment on the other person`s comment? That would be useful!
When I deactivated NOFOLLOW on my blog it did increase the number of comments I received (good) though it did increase the attempts at bad comments too (bad). Fortunately there are such great plugins to manage that through WordPress I’ve yet to have a baddie get through.
Upgrade to 2.8 if you want the ability to reply to comments. The theme you’re using may conflict with the threaded display but it’s WP itself that added the ability.
Also consider installing the akismet plugin if you haven’t already. It’s a must-have.
Happy blogging.
