Making and Selling Baby Slings
Babywearing is a big trend these days. As I live in Guatemala, I’m quite accustomed to seeing women carry their babies in slings on their backs. I wear my own little ones in sutis, which my mother-in-law taught me to use.
There are a few women taking advantage of this trend, but it looks like there is quite a large market for babywearing gear. If you enjoy sewing (or don’t but are looking for a profitable business idea), you may want to try making your own baby slings.
Slings for babywearing are very easy to make. You basically need to find nice, sturdy fabric and hem it. Lots of straight lines to sew, so it is a great way for beginning seamstresses to start out. And since slings can be made out of just about any fabric that is strong enough to hold the weight of a baby, your options are limitless. Selecting fun colors for your products is a very enjoyable process.
There’s no reason to stick to slings. You could also try your hand at other types of baby carriers or accessories. Perhaps matching diaper bags and sling sets, or stuffies to go with your line of babywearing gear!
Baby slings can be sold through your own website, eBay, or in the real world in stores that carry other baby products. You can also offer your slings for sale at craft fairs and Christmas bazaars as you get started.

Great idea! I made my own baby sling with baby #6. I never entertained the idea of actually making them to sell.
