Kids Bouncing Off the Walls?

I happen to live in a tropical country, but I still remember those freezing winter days full of snow. Which many of you are experiencing right now. It´s hard enough to work from home with kids hanging around, but if you´ve been running into some snow days, you´re probably going a bit nuts!

Wendy, over at eMoms at Home has a great roundup post on ideas for keeping your little ones (and not so little ones) busy. You might want to check it out if you need a little peace and quiet.

Otherwise, here are a few other lifesaving ideas for work at home moms:

  • Get out some puzzles. These work very well for any kid who can concentrate for more than five minutes and they are silent!
  • New crayons are always a hit. Keep a box or two hidden, along with a handful of dollar store coloring books for snow days.
  • Let them experiment. Give your kids a bunch of clear plastic containers, water with a few drops of food coloring and let them try to mix new colors.
  • Put on a video. You may try not to let your kids watch tv, but snow days are perfect for breaking that rule.
  • Let them “cook”. Younger kids can just mix up something yummy, like peanut butter balls, while older kids might want to try something like real cookies. You can work on your laptop and supervise. They´ll stay busy and quiet for a bit eating the results, too.

What are your tricks for keeping kids busy when they stay home from school?
