Leo, from ZenHabits, has just given notice at his day job and will be working from home full time in a couple of weeks. He asked his readers to help him out with tips on how to avoid the temptation to simply sit and watch TV all day. The answers that showed up in the comments were all excellent and as work at home moms, I think we could learn a lot about productivity from Leo´s readers.
So, why not head over and read the post and all the comments (hey, leave one of your own, too!)? Just in case you can´t, I´ve summarized the advice below:
- Get up, shower and get dressed in the morning
- Use Tivo for shows you can´t miss, or just cancel your cable and rent the shows.
- Set up a work schedule and stick to it
- Have a separate work area or office, if possible
- Get away from the computer sometimes
- Be sure to schedule breaks
- Create mini-milestones and reward yourself for reaching them
- Don´t log in to Messenger or chat until you´ve finished your work
- Designate specific days for specific work
- Set limits to the amount of time you can work per day
- Work when you are most productive
- Keep a Not To Do list of things you think of during the day but aren´t important
- Invest in quality tools
- Sit at a desk to work, rather than the couch or bed
What are your productivity tips?
