How to Just Breathe

If you’re a work at home mom, you probably hit rough times a little more often than the average working mother. Deadlines need to be met, life is getting in the way and you feel overwhelmed by it all. This is the time that people say “just breathe” . . . but HOW exactly do you do this?

First of all, take a five minute break. Five minutes will not destroy an already wrecked schedule and you can afford to take a coffee and gather your thoughts. Have a tea or coffee or whatever it is that keeps you going through the day.

Next, take a moment to give your kids a hug and read them a story. Again, this isn’t going to screw everything up, but it will make you feel like a better mom, something that is pretty rare in these moments!

Now, get your butt in gear and work! Sit down and write out everything you have to do and decide on priority. If you can email a client and have them give you a little leeway, do it. It’s a lousy feeling, but sometimes it’s necessary and will ease the pressure.

Now that your breathing is over, hard work ensues . . . but you’ll feel better because you have a plan and you have taken some time to be with your children. It’s much easier to work this way!

  1. Working from home seems like there is no schedule. You will never get caught up. So take a deep breathe, relax, rethink priorities and then attack them again. We all have some kind of calendar in our work life, we also need to schedule time with our kids. I have set up an appointment with my children at the same time each day, just like I schedule work meetings. After all, both worlds need our attention and if we do not schedule regular time for each, they will suffer. My kids also know when their time is and seem to be a little more patient knowing that their time with mom is coming soon and they know when that time is.

  2. I love the idea of scheduling a meeting with your kids, Stacey! That’s a great way to go.

  3. While working at home deals with your own schedule preference, it is also but important to have self leisure and a time to pamper your self. Taking advantage of idle times of work and doing quality activities greatly increases yor value for time management. A tedious work and time investment of work complies with a worthy reward for yourself.
