How to Find a Great Mother`s Help
While work at home moms have the advantage of being at home with their kids, that doesn`t mean there aren`t times when you need to be able to concentrate on work without being interrupted every few minutes with requests for ice cream or permission to visit a friend.
A mother`s help is the perfect solution. You have someone to watch the kids in the house, so you can safely seal yourself up in your office or workshop and yet, if anything happens, you`re right there and can deal with it. Mother`s helps are usually cheaper than daycare or a nanny, as well.
Finding a good mother`s help can take some time. Often you`ll be looking at younger people, teens in particular, who can work on weekends or after school.
You may want to test several different teens out before making your decision. You`ll be able to observe since you are working at home, to see how well they follow the rules.
Get recommendations from other moms in your area or, if you already have an occasional babysitter who does nights for you, talk to her about the possibility of working some days, as well. Not everyone is comfortable watching the kids while you`re at home, but you should also be comfortable with whoever is looking after your children, whether you are there or not.

Another idea to keep in mind: I’ve been having a good experience now that I’ve hired a somewhat older mother’s help(er). She’s a grandma and has no problem doting on my baby.
That`s a good idea, Lorna. I`m glad you`ve found someone who`s so great with Dot.
Did you find you have to pay more for an older woman?
Actually, I pay a small amount more, but it’s still pretty reasonable. She gets $25 a day, which works out to be about $6.25/hour. I paid my teen girl $20 a day this summer.
