Whether you are looking for work at home opportunities online or off, you are bound to run into scams at some point. They really are a pain, you may invest money or just work several hours and end up with nothing at the end! As a work at home mom, you need to focus on things that actually pay, since your time is precious! Here are a few tips for avoiding scams.

- If they ask you to pay for info, run. This is the number one sign of a scam. You shouldnt have to pay to get a job, you wouldnt pay a fee to start working at McDonalds. The only exceptions to this rule are programs like Creative Memories or Avon that require an investment in materials in order to get started. However, even with these sorts of programs, you need to be very careful because they usually require a minimum order for you to get the best discount. If you arent cautious, you can actually lose money. While not scams (you really can earn) they are also not ideal unless you are a very good salesperson.

- Are they offering you free money to join up? That might sound great, but most of these places also have a high payout rate that you will never meet. They offer free money to give you confidence and then you have to work for fractions of a penny.

- Does it sound too good to be true? If you spot an ad that claims you will earn up to $2,000 a day, just dont even bother. There is no legitimate way to earn that kind of money and they are no doubt looking to scam you. As your mother said, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”.

- No work required? If a company claims that you can just sign up and earn without doing any work, they are not legit. While we would all love to just sit back and watch the dough roll in, that isnt possible. Even if you have royalties or residuals coming in (technically free money), you did some work at the beginning to earn that. Remember that you always have to put in some effort in order to see gain.

- Check them out. There are plenty of forums around, such as MyLot where you can ask about any programs you come across. People who have had good or bad experiences are usually more than willing to share. So check new money-earning programs with other people before you sign up.Try checking out this great resource for work at home moms that shows how to avoid even more scams such as envelope stuffing: Scam Review
