How Realistic Are You?
There are so many moms out there who are eager to work from home and that`s a great thing, but it`s also important to keep in mind that it`s not all fun and games. Take, for example, a typical day at the Davies-Hernandez home.
6:00 am: Kids are up and jumping on parents. Parents attempt to sleep a few more minutes before Mama (that would be me) rolls out of bed and begins to get kids dressed, diapers changed, etc. I usually get online at some point here to check emails and see if anything urgent has come up.
7:00: Breakfast. Usually uneaten because my kids are picky eaters.
7:30: Crafts. We homeschool our oldest, Dorian, who is 3, but Dante, the 2 year old, usually joins us for this part. Papa is still in bed.
8:00: “School”. Papa takes the little guy out to visit the in-laws, Mama and Dorian work on sorting buttons, stringing beads and playing Memory with animal cards.
9:00: Snack time. Dorian helps make snacks for himself and his brother. Messy, but fun.
9:15: I sit down at the computer and start looking over my blogs.
9:20: Boys ask for a movie so I get up to put it one on, but they need to choose a different one. Wait while they argue over which to watch, help sort it all out and finally put the movie on.
9:40: Back on the computer, approve blog comments, make a few comments of my own.
10:00: Break up a fight between the kids. Blow up a couple of balloons and bat them around with the boys.
10:15: Kids want to go outside. I put on their shoes and wash their faces and send them out the door.
10:25: Back on the computer . . . no, wait, I need some tea. Make tea, get back online and start to work on my assignments for the day.
11:00: Dorian has pushed Dante, Dante pulled Dorian`s hair . . . sort the arguement out, scold both parties, threaten a nap and send them back outside.
11:20: Make good on my nap threat. Not that they sleep anymore! The kids sing and play in their rooms while I research an article.
12:00: Quick sandwiches for lunch, kids are back up. Hubby offers to take one kid to Antigua with him.I agree and set up a coloring station for the one who stays behind so I can finish my article.
That`s an example of a typical morning around here. Trust me, the afternoons aren`t much more productive!
We do get in a lot of fun time, though, when the grumps get too grumpy, I turn on Raffi and we get up and dance and do the motions and laugh at each other. We drive cars around the sofa and have hopping races across the kitchen.
I wouldn`t trade my life as a work at home mom for anything. But if you are just getting into it, you have to keep in mind that things seldom go as planned when you have little ones around!

I also love being a work at home mom… though I realized that you cannot implement things as planned when kids are around.
What a great insight to your mornings, your house sounds very busy! I find it intriguing to see how other people live. Thanks for the update and the children sound adorable.
