When I first started on Squidoo, it was more a promo thing than everything else. I’d heard that it was a great source of backlinks and traffic and that Google loves it. And it was all true.

I built a few lenses to promote this blog, then later a few more to promote my Gourmet Mama site. I was getting a steady stream of visitors and that was nice. Each month, my earnings report on Squidoo would pop up and I earned a few cents. I think it took me almost a year to earn enough to reach the $10 payout minimum!

RocketMoms Changed Everything

Then I was invited to join RocketMoms, a group of mom lensmakers who would be led through the making of top quality lenses. It sounded pretty useful, so off I went, faithfully making the assigned lens each week for 8 weeks. What was totally unexpected was the fact that those lenses started to really take off! They shot through the ranks of both Squidoo and Google and before I knew it, my payouts weren’t cents anymore, they were higher each month. Then I hit the $100 mark and passed it, with a payout of $111.77.

Squidoo won’t make you rich (though some people claim to be making $500 a day from it), but it is fun and it is a GREAT way to promote your business. If you’re using it for promotion, why not earn a few dollars while you’re at it?

How to Be Successful on Squidoo

I’ve learned a few things on the way, that were essential to my success so far.

1. Keywords not only matter, they are VITAL!
2. Participation in the community is very important. Without other people ranking your lens, you won’t get too far.
3. Outside marketing helps. I use social bookmarking and article marketing, as well as posting on Facebook and Twitter from time to time.
4. You have to know how to use the tools . . . there are so many that I avoided most at first, but I started to really earn once I made full use of them.
5. Interlinking your lenses really helps.
