How Agatha Made Me More Productive
Living in a tropical country, you’d think we would get a lot of hurricanes. Most of the time though, they don’t actually affect my town, since we are quite sheltered. Tropical Storm Agatha, however, landed right on top of us this weekend and she was a doozy.
Knowing that I might not have a lot of time to work before the power went out, I was in super mode, working faster than usual, typing at highly elevated rates and just generally getting more done than usual. That’s when it occurred to me. It really does help to have a tight deadline to pressure you.
While I wasn’t certain when the power would go out, I did know I had limited time and I prepared everything so I could just get it done and send it. I even copied out my assignments so I could work on them by hand (yet another reason I need a laptop!) just in case.
In the end, the power went out for a total of two hours, which wasn’t bad. I’d done more than I usually accomplish in a couple of days and it was great! Now to figure out how to make that work for me all the time.
