Got Motivation?
What motivates you to get up in the morning and actually work?
One of the problems with working at home is that can be really easy to procrastinate. You are surrounded with distractions, from kids to the dog, to a kitchen sink full of dishes! All it takes is one little deviation from your intended path and you are completely off course.
Staying motivated can take some work. It isn´t all glowing sunsets and awe-inspiring mountains, like the posters would have you believe. Nope, it´s plain and hard and it means ignoring things that would be a lot more interesting to do.
Each work at home mom has her own way to motivate herself. Maybe you tell yourself that if you finish X number of candles before noon, you´ll take your kids to the park. Or perhaps you reward yourself with a special treat, a girls´ night out or a massage, for completing your tasks.
My motivation, apart from the obvious staying at home with my boys, is to finish my house. Once that is done, I´m not sure what my motivation to get up and trudge the two steps to my computer will be. But I´m sure I will find something.
So, come on and share with the world. What motivates you to get to work in the morning.

Deadlines, of course, and having contractual obligations to blog X amount per week for various sites is a huge incentive. I like to be realiable for my clients and get them the work done as promised if not earlier.
And after I let my personal blogs go without new posts for a month, not only did I get lower traffic, but lower ad revenues. Nothing like those checks being smaller to get you off your tush and write.
Yes, money is a pretty big motivator! I suspect many people are motivated by that one. It really helps to have someone you are accountable to, as well.
What a great blog you’ve got here!
I’m motivated by the knowledge that I only have a little while to work in peace before my daughter gets up in the morning. Then, all bets are off!
Thanks, Mama Zen! I know what you mean about working before your daughter gets up, my most productive times are when my sons are asleep, but they seldom both sleep at the same time! Excellent motivation.
