Getting Out of the Work at Home Mom Rut
Are you in a work at home mom rut? It happens to me on a fairly regular basis. I will suddenly realize that I`m sitting in front of the computer with my cup of tea and really, I have no plan. I`m so accustomed to having to write that I am there, even when I have no writing to do! Instead, my day consists mostly of surfing, reading blogs and not being very productive.
How do you beat this problem? It`s quite simple.
The next time you find yourself going through the same motions just because you`re used to it, sit down with a pad of paper and write out all the things you SHOULD do but never have time for. Put this next to your workspace. From now on, when you have a day when nothing urgent needs to be done, no orders need to be filled or you have some client-free time, take a look at that list and start working your way through it.
Here`s an example. Most of the time, I`m busy writing for clients. That`s my main line of work. So, when I have no articles on the roster, my list of things to do includes things like planning my blogs, writing articles for article marketing, working on layouts for my posts over at My Baby Photos, and doing maintenance work on my blogs and websites.
The problem is that if you don`t have these things planned out ahead of time, you`ll end up in that rut, doing the same things without much purpose. It`s far better to write them down and be able to put that “free” time to good use, don`t you think?
