Five Things No Work At Home Mom Should Be Without
- A bouncy seat. My 6 week old is at the point where he is just not happy laying in his bed anymore. He wants to see things. A friend just gave us her bouncy seat since she is going back to the States. It’s pink, but my son loves it! He sits quite contentedly for long periods of time while I work. I also keep it beside my desk so I can bounce him lightly with a foot while trying to finish articles for deadlines!
- Music videos. Whatever your kids like. For my 19 month old, it is Hi5. I put that music video on (I made a special DVD that repeats the five songs) and he dances in front of the TV for nearly an hour. Although I always swore that I would never use TV to baby-sit, sometimes it is inevitable.
- Healthy snacks. For us, it is raisins and bran crackers. These keep my firstborn happy and content while Mama is working her butt off! Keeping kids’ blood sugar levels up is a good way to avoid tantrums, too.
- Books. If you read to your children when they were small, chances are they love books now. My son can stay quite busy reading a stack of books on his own. It may not last long, but it is nice to have the quiet to finish up a project or two.
- A sister-in-law who loves your children. Or any other family member who lives nearby! My sister-in-law lives about 30 seconds from my front door, on the same property and frequently shows up to “borrow” the baby. This leaves me with just one child to contend with and makes life a whole lot easier!
