Finding a Legitimate Home Business
If you spend five minutes Googling home business opportunities, you’ll find dozens of different opportunities. All of them sound very promising, some a little too promising. So how do you know which one is legit?
The first thing to keep in mind is that the vast majority of business opps you find online, particularly those aimed at work at home moms, are either scams or very difficult to earn in. Often, the only way to earn money in these is to recruit other people, which is why you will find gushing reviews all over the place for certain places.
You should always investigate any opportunity before you even consider investing any money. Here are a few questions to answer:
1. How does it work? If you have to send money to find out WHAT the business is, run far away. There should be a clear explanation of how things function and how you will be earning money up front. Whether it’s sales, services, or something else, you need to know exactly what is involved so you can make the best decision.
2. What are other people earning? Do some research to find out what people are actually making with the business. Some direct sales businesses can be very hard to actually earn, though the advertised amounts might be quite high. Take the time to learn more and find out the real story. Keep in mind that many times people will be promoting the business because they are earning by recruiting . . . not by selling, as they may insinuate.
3. Are there any complaints about the business? Look online with the name of the business opportunity and “scam” to find poential information about it. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau to find out if there are any complaints against the business.
Keep in mind that there are a lot of scams out there and you have to be careful. There are some sites that cover scams, as well, so keep an eye out for these, since they can offer you some excellent information. You can start here and here.

When you do find a suitable income from working at home, and it IS possible, then that can also give you a bit of a tax break. Earning income from home incurs expenses and a portion of your home expenses can be offset against tax. Check with your tax consultant first though.
