Failure: The Key to Success

“Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It’s quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that’s where you will find success.” – Thomas J. Watson

Some people fall down and never get up again. They look back on their lives, mourning the one time they tried something, regretting that they never made it big.

Other people fall down, get up and promptly fall down again . . . and again and again. Eventually they will make it. Maybe not the way they thought they would, but sheer tenacity counts for something, it’s merely a question of how long you hang in there and whether or not you learn rapidly from falling.

Think about your children. When they started to walk, did they just get up and head off, never once stumbling or tripping and falling down on their cute, padded little behinds? Of course not! Did they cry their eyes out and swear off walking forever after that first snafu? Nope. Learning to walk means falling down. Lots. And then getting back up. The only difference is that you have parents to keep lifting you up and encouraging you.

As adults, we don’t always have that encouragement. In fact, quite often we have just the opposite. It’s a good idea to find someone like you and make sure you get the encouragement you need. It’s not a one way thing, you can give it, too. The idea is to keep going, because your mistakes are all learning opportunities.

  1. Yes, you are absolutely right. And the most interesting that the success comes even then when you do not expect it!

This is SO true. So many people don’t realize that you can’t succeed without going through some failures as well. A “no” just puts you that much closer to a “yes.” :)

  3. It is not necessary to become angry. It is necessary to do all positively!
If you will that becomes angry will not excel. It is necessary to do any business with good intentions.
By the way, that who has invented a bulb, has made 1000 bulbs before the modern bulb has earned! Only think, it has made 1000 unsuccessful attempts!

This is so inspiring and true! People fail all the time, but only a few are strong enough to get back up and keep moving forward. Well said!

  5. Failure it only the next step to success!
