Even Work at Home Moms Need a Break
The past couple of weeks here have been quite hectic as my husband has been on tour with his band, meaning I get to look after kids 24-7, as well as try to get my writing assignments done . . . it hasn´t been easy, let me tell you! Work at home moms are often considered lucky to be able to spend all that time at home, with our children, but there are times when you have the kids screaming next to you and a deadline looming that you just don´t feel so lucky.
The fact of the matter is that everyone needs a break. As human beings, we simply aren´t made to continue at one thing all the time. Whether you are a stay at home mom, a work out of the house mom or a work at home mom, you need a break sometimes. A chance to take a deep breath and close your eyes without someone taking the opportunity to flush their toy truck down the toilet.
How do you find the time to get a break? A chunk of kid-free time isn´t just going to fall into your lap, you´ll have to plan for it. Make it a part of your schedule, just like any work-related item. Write it on the calendar, in your daytimer, etc. and then do what it takes to get that time free. And try not to work during the free time. If you only have an hour a week to relax, use it to do something you really enjoy.
It´s easy to lose yourself in the hubbub of daily life, rushing kids to and from soccer practice, school and piano lessons, cooking dinner and somewhere in there trying to fit in work and maybe a spare moment for your husband. Being a mom is hectic, being a work at home mom is that times ten! So, start planning to take a little time each week, it doesn´t even have to be a daily thing, and make yourself relax for an hour or two. You´ll work more efficiently for it.
