Effective Multi-tasking
I learned a very valuable lesson yesterday. It came from a friend that I have never met face to face, but am getting to know very well online. He offered this strategy when I was feeling rather overwhelmed by articles and blogs and everything else that I needed to do.
1. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Proceed to work hard at one project. We´ll call this one Project A.
2. When the timer sounds, set it again for 5 minutes and start working on Project B. The important thing here is that you quit working the very second that timer sounds. Even if you are in the middle of a sentence. Stop and switch projects. This is important to keep you motivated.
3. When you finish the first round, set the timer for 10 minutes and go back to Project A, picking up where you left off.
4. Continue this, adding five minutes to the time you can stay with one project. See how far you can get before you have to take a 5 minute break. When you take a break, you have to start again with 5 minute increments and work your way back up.
This technique is extremely effective and you can use it for various tasks, alternating between three or four activities if need be. I intend to use it right from the start today and hopefully finish up everything that I so desperately need to get done!
