Easy Snacks Your Kids Will Love
I don`t know about you, but when my kids start clamoring for food mid-morning, I usually don`t have anything on hand to give them. Fortunately, snacks don`t need to be complicated, you can even prepare them ahead of time so all your children need to do is pop into the fridge and grab something, saving you valuable time that could be spent on your work . . . while still giving kids something healthy to eat.
It`s usually easiest if you divide your snacks into individual containers, ziplock bags or plastic, lidded dishes. No portion control needed, kids can just grab one and get on with it.
- Dried fruit mix. Toss together 2 cups banana chips, 1 cup raisins, 1 cup almonds or peanuts (or both!), 1 cup dried apricots and 1/4 cup dried pineapple.
- Popsicles. Make your own to save money and keep things healthy. Just blend a couple of bananas, a little orange juice and some berries of choice (my kids like strawberries) and pour into paper cups or Popsicle molds. Add a stick (you can buy them at craft stores) and freeze. Healthy, delicious and very quick.
- Fruit dippers. Slice some fruit (apples, pears, etc.) into wedges and put into a ziplock bag (dip in lemon juice to prevent browning). In a small container, mix 1/2 cup plain yogurt with 1 tablespoon of honey and a dash of cinnamon. Let kids dip their fruit in this yummy, healthy dip.
- Popcorn. Pop up a bunch of popcorn one evening and seal it in individual baggies. It will last for up to a week. For a little interest, sprinkle with a favorite flavoring, such as cinnamon or cheese powder.
- Veggies. If there are any vegetables that your kids like, slice them up ahead of time and prefill small containers (the sauce containers from fast food restaurants work well, or get special ones like these cute bento sauce containers) with a favorite dressing, honey mustard, Ranch, etc. for dipping. One thing I do that takes more time is cut carrots into stars and hearts for my boys with a bento cutter to up the interest factor.
- Homemade Lunchables. Make your own by combining a handful of crackers with pre-sliced cheese and ham in separate baggies (which can be reused, btw). Kids grab the packet and make their own mini sandwiches.

I am a work at home dad, yes it is not just moms that work at home!
Getting the boys used to my routine helps a lot so I don;t get interrupted when I am working. making them more responsible. Start at an early age. Gently of course. Make a game of it. It sure helps!
