Drink Water for Better Business

Did you know that your home business could do better if you simply drink more water?

That might sound strange, but it´s true. The majority of people do not drink enough water during the day and end up mildly dehydrated. That might not sound like a big deal, but even mild dehydration can cause mental slowdown.

Let´s face it, if you are a work at home mom, you probably have a few factors working against you being at the peak of your mental function. Lack of sleep, kids distracting you, not eating right, these can all affect how well your brain is working. But dehydration is something that is far easier to fix than a baby who wakes up every two or three hours throughout the night!

You might feel that you are getting enough liquids, downing ten cups of coffee and a gallon of Pepsi each day, but your body and your brain need pure water. Just replace one of your sodas with a glass of water.

Keeping a bottle of water handy is a good idea, too. It is easier to measure how much you drink and is not in danger of spilling all over the place when the kids play tag, using your desk as home base. Just take a few sips every now and then. You could even set it up so that every time you hang up the phone, you take a drink, or whenever you check your blog stats.

If you are one of those people who just can´t stand plain water, try adding a squeeze of lime to your bottle. You can also try the new flavored waters. Just look for one that doesn´t have any sweeteners or chemicals, the flavoring should be all natural.

Try it for a week. If you don´t feel better, come back and let me know!

  1. I know I’m guilty of not drinking enough water especially at work when I’m 30,000 feet in the air. I guess I really have no excuse when I’m home. I’m going to make more of an effort now :-)

  2. I can see not wanting to drink too much water at work, those airplane bathrooms are cramped!

  3. I find that keeping a full glass of water on my desk keeps me from going to the kitchen to find snacks so I eat a lot less junk when there’s water around.

And you are definitely right about dehydration causing mental slowness. I’ve noticed that I can focus much better with water around. Only downside is I’m up to the bathroom a lot more often :)

  4. Getting up to go to the bathroom could also be a plus, you know. It helps reduce eye strain by getting you away from that monitor!
