Do You Have an Accountability Partner?
Having someone that you are accountable to can do wonders for your productivity level. You will feel that what you do is important because someone else cares that it gets done!
When selecting an accountability partner, you should stay away from friends and family. Choose someone a bit more distant if you really want this to work. The reason for this is that your husband might be a little too understanding and a good friend may just tell you that it was a bad day. That won´t help you be more productive, it just gives you excuses!
Your accountability partner can be in another state or even country if you like. Someone online works well. Just send emails back and forth instead of calling one another, it works just as well.
You should choose a time to contact your accountability partner each day. This gives you a set deadline for when things must be done. Whether by email or phone, you should be ready at the agreed time, ready to report on your progress.
Each day, let your accountability partner know what you need to get done by the next day. This could be strictly business related, or it might include things like the laundry and dishes, depending on the agreement the two of you have. You might want to decide on a way to reward and/or punish yourself depending on whether you finish the list or not.
The only way this works is if you are 100% honest with your accountability partner. If you hedge a little and say that you finished that report when in reality you only did half, the system won´t work. The extra motivation of having someone else to be responsible to is something that many work at home moms find themselves missing from a real life job. The accountability partner is the best way to substitute that in the work at home situation.
