Business Focus: Do You Have It?
Lately, I`ve been quite distracted with my writing business. My main dream is to build up a network of blogs like this one and my Gourmet Mama blog, on topics that I am passionate about, with resources like ebooks and ecourses to help people learn. But those things aren`t making money yet, so I find myself being sucked deeper and deeper into projects that have nothing to do with fulfilling my dreams.
Do you find yourself in a similar position? Working because you need the money, unable to fuel your dreams? At the moment, I`m the sole breadwinner since my husband`s band has had nearly all his gigs cancelled because of the swine flu scares here in Guatemala. That doesn`t leave much room for building up my blogs!
What`s the solution when it comes down to dreams vs. earning a living? I don`t know yet. At this point, I`m still trying to find a compromise that will work out well for all involved, but I would love to hear other people’s takes on this! If you`ve been through or are in the middle of something similar, let me know your thoughts.

A few ideas:
1. Get a financial partner who will get a stake in your websites in return for advancing a sum of money
2. Find strategic advertising partners who will put up cash now in exchange for long-term placement on the site
3. Hire other writers to assist you with the work you’ve already been hired to do; they write the articles/press releases, etc., you spend 10% as much time reviewing/correction their work, but split the cash 50/50.
4. Tell your husband to find an interim source of income.
Thanks for the suggestions, Mark. I´m already doing 3, I currently have two writers under me. As for 4, it´s not really worth it since my husband is Guatemalan and the best job he can get at the moment pays around $300 a month . . . not a huge help! At the moment, he is in charge of keeping the kids busy so I can work which is good.
1 is something I hadn´t considered yet and 2 I´ve thought about but I haven´t put into action yet.
