Welcome to Part Three of the Budget Promotion series. In this article, we will be looking at how you can build up a customer base using a blog.
Blogs are a great way to connect with clients and potential clients. However, don´t expect to be able to simply throw up a blog and have customers flocking to it. You will need to build up some great content that will have people coming back so you can continue to advertise to them. They say that you need to see an ad 7.5 times before you will act on it, so the main thing is to get people coming back to your blog.
Instead of blatantly pushing your products, look at providing quality information that you can work your products into. For example, if you are a freelance writer, you could blog for businesses that will be looking for writers. Write a post about the importance of having good copy or perhaps one on how bad web content kills your business. Then work your business into the blog, or have it set out in your sidebar.
Your posts should be interesting and not make it terribly obvious that you are selling. If you are creating interest and offering quality information, your visitors will come back and have a very good chance of turning into customers. That´s the key to it all, repeat visitors.
Blogs for businesses can be set up for free or on the same webhost as your website (you do have one, don´t you?). Try Wordpress or Blogger for free accounts. They are very wallet friendly and ideal for starting your first business blog.

Good tips…I spend a lot of time reading other people’s blogs (and in the process learn a lot). I know I need to start one soon…Hopefully reading your post will motivate me to start one SOON.

Excellent advice. The real value is in creating content that is useful to your readers. If they like what you write, then they’ll take a look around to see what you do and what you might be selling.
Beth, if you are looking for information on blogging, I highly recommend http://www.Problogger.net. Excellent information there.
John, you are very right about content. If you have boring or lousy content, you will lose people right off.
