There are a lot of great productivity blogs out there, but it can get a bit overwhelming reading all of them. Plus, you aren´t being very productive if you end up spending half your day reading about how to be productive!
However, there are definitely some good points to be taken away from these blogs.
One very important point is to break up your to do list. Rather than write down a few million things that you need to get done, you need to be a bit choosier. Write them all down if you like, but then separate out the most important things.
Leo, at Zen Habits, refers to these main things that MUST get done as big rocks. Here´s an excerpt from his post:
If your week is seven buckets, and you go into each bucket without planning ahead, and you fill it up with little pebbles and grains of sand and whatever other debris comes your way … soon there will be no room for the Big Rocks. Your buckets fill up faster than you know it, and once your buckets are full, you’re done. You can’t get bigger buckets.
He has a very good point and it´s something to think about. Do you try to get a lot of little things done, and then have no room for the big rocks? Try breaking your to do list into categories and choose 1-3 must do chores or tasks to get done each day. This is something that I´m still working on, but it really is helpful. Once you finish those two or three main things, you can breathe easier and start focusing on the smaller items on your list.

This is such an important point. I don’t think that it can be emphasized enough. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by seemingly big tasks. If they can be made in to small tasks (and nearly everything can be), then they seem less intimidating.
