Are You Updated?

If you use Wordpress on your own host (not wordpress.com), then you need to make sure that you are updated to the latest version, 2.8.4. The reason for this is that there is a backdoor URL that hackers can use to get into your website or blog if you are using an older version.

I know I tend to be a bit lax in updating things, particularly since so many things are still working out the kinks, but in this case, it is definitely a good idea!

  1. hey – does updating to a new version of wordpress mean that some of my plugins wont work or that my formatting on the posts will change? Thanks for letting me know about this risk!

  2. The formatting shouldn’t change at all. I’ve had no issues with any of my plugins, but you may need to update those, as well if you have issues. Always make a backup first, though, just in case!

  3. I just upgraded the one WP site I have and had no issues. Thanks for the tip!

  4. Being up to date is so important

  5. It always seems I have a problem when i upgrade, so I dread it.

  6. Plug ins are generally not a problem, some “themes” like semiologic can be a problem
