Are You Being Invaded?

In the past month, I have had to reinstall my operating system twice, thanks to some very nasty spyware and viruses. In that same amount of time, I have had about 20 different viruses and Trojans try to take over my computer as well!

These invasive programs are a pain in the neck, to say the least. And you can get them anywhere, my last virus came from an innocent little flower download off a free clipart site! (Guess you get what you pay for!) Although you can avoid the obvious areas, porn sites, free game sites, etc, that doesnt mean you wont get infected.

So, how do you know you have viruses or spyware on your computer? Well, for one, it will probably be running a LOT slower than usual. If you find that your normally fast computer has slowed to molasses in January speed, you might have been infected. Also, if you notice that files are suddenly replicating themselves or new folders are appearing on your desktop, you should take notice.

Some viruses wont tell you that they are there, just work away silently in the background, eating away at your files. But others will happily announce their presence with a message on your screen, some of them right before they shut down your computer. So far I havent had a really nasty one (knock on wood) but I know they are out there.

The best way to stop viruses and spyware from attacking your computer is to make sure that you have a good antivirus installed. Scan all your downloaded files BEFORE you open them to make sure they are clean. And stay away from suspicious sites. Whatever you do, dont buy anti-spyware when you see an icon that blinks up and takes you to an anti-spyware page. This is the same company that put the program on your computer and you are just rewarding them if you buy their product!

Instead, shop around and get a good anti-spyware/antivirus program. I recommend XsoftSpySE Anti-Spyware.
