A Review of “The Secret”
I know, I know, it´s nothing new, but I just got the chance to finally watch The Secret and see what all the fuss was about. I have to admit that the movie was rather interesting, if not a tad schizophrenic with all the zipping and cutting between the sections, that could have been done a little better.
That being said, I did enjoy it. The whole premise is that if you think and feel positive, you will attract positive things. Supposedly things you want and ask for. The movie even compares this to asking a genie for your wish, only in this case the genie is the Universe. It all sounds great! But does it work?
See, The Secret isn´t such a huge secret, really. According to the movie, those who knew it in the past, people like Einstein and Plato, didn´t want this incredible information leaking out, so it was kept hidden. But I don´t know that it´s so secret, since there are plenty of positive people in the world who are simply like that and have never been taught or had some great hidden truth revealed to them, they are just optimists.
The movie is divided into various sections, the Secret to Love, to Health, to the World, etc. It makes sense, in a strange kind of way, and I have to admit that it is inspiring. The whole thing really reminds me of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, which I read eons ago. The same concept of thinking positively and imagining that you already have what you want has popped up in several other books that I´ve come across as well.
So, would I recommend seeing the movie? Absolutely, it is quite inspiring. Would I use the Secret in my own life? Yes. Not because I´m a sucker for this stuff (although I would love for it to be true, I´m a bit skeptical), but because I could use some motivation and a little positive thinking never hurt anyone! I think you do have to be very careful not to fall into the trap of figuring that if you just imagine it, you´ll get. There is still some hard work involved there. You still have to make things happen, even if the Universe is working with you!
