A Prime Example of Life Getting in the Way
My regular readers will be noticing that my posts on this blog have been going up a little later each day and I even missed yesterday. This is because I´ve been dealing with some major distractions. While I could just keep on writing here like normal, ignoring the issue, I thought it might be more helpful to blog about it!
When you work at home, life tends to get in the way of work. In this case, it was both life and work (my other work). Here´s what has happened in the past week.
- My 20 month old had a cold and didn´t sleep for two nights. That was right at the beginning of the week and got everything off to a bad start, but it was something I could deal with.
- A major assignment came in. Major. As in, writing a dozen articles for assorted print magazines, after years of only getting published online. It´s something I´m very excited about, but the deadlines are tight and I´m having troubles getting the time to just sit and write!
- My 3 month old got sick. Not just with a cold, but with full-on bronchitis. More sleepless nights, running to the doctor, and trying to soothe a baby who could hardly breathe, he was so stuffed up.
- Another magazine assignment. Yes, same company. They liked my work, which is great and all, but I didn´t really need another deadline!
- The 30 Day Challenge. I´m trying to follow this course set up by Ed Dale and Dan Raines to teach even beginners to do Internet Marketing. It requires a bit of a time commitment and I´ve been trying to keep up with writing mini-articles and doing niche research.
- My husband had to work. He´s a musician and frequently has to travel to other parts of Guatemala to get to his gigs. That means he leaves here in the morning and doesn´t get back until the next day, in many cases. Although he loves his job, it means that I am trying to watch two sick children while trying to finish a deadline.
Life gets in the way. It´s just part of working at home and to tell the truth, it isn´t necessarily a bad thing. After all, I´m at home because I want to be able to look after my kids when they are sick and be there for them when they need a story read to them. It´s the reason I am a work at home mom. But sometimes it just feels overwhelming.
So, that´s the reason things have been erratic around here lately. I´d like to promise that it will all be perfect from here on out, but that would just be silly. Because, as we´ve seen, things seldom go as planned.
Care to share your overwhelming moments, days or weeks? I´d love to hear about them!

Congratulations on your print assignment. That is exciting!
Thanks, it really is exciting! Hard though, after being used to writing short articles for the web!
