6 Work From Home Business Ideas
Anyone who has read this blog for very long knows that I encourage women to come up with their own work from home business idea rather than work entirely for other people. It’s a good way to ensure that you will earn any profits made from working hard and it will also help you avoid the whole world of work at home business scams out there.
If you’re in need of some work from home business idea, I’ve compiled six right here to inspire you. Feel free to leave fresh ideas in the comments, as well, but please avoid dropping spam links.
1. Party Organizer. This is a from home business idea that you can keep small or turn into something huge. On the low end of the scale, you can assemble party packs to sell. These would include everything the person needs in order to celebrate, from party hats and plates to balloons, favors, etc.
On the other end of the scale, you could actually arrange everything, setting up events, arranging spaces for the parties, ordering flowers, decorating, sending invites, etc. Totally up to you as to how far you want to take it.
Best For: Moms who are already organized and who don’t get stressed out planning parties and events.
2. Memory Quilts. This is a home business that lets you spend your days sewing. You’ll be piecing together quilts from pieces of clothing that hold special memories for people. In some cases, you might be working with infant clothing for parents who have lost their child, or you might turn a grandparent’s favorite shirts into a memory quilt.
Best For: Moms who love sewing and have quilting experience.
3. Spa Baskets. Another home business that can go many different ways, spa baskets are the perfect gift idea for any woman. Guys love finding affordable all-in-one gifts for their wives, girlfriends and moms, so they would likely be your target market.
Spa baskets can range from a simple set that you put together yourself with an inspirational book, candles, bubblebath and pedicure supplies to something more exotic with handmade soap, homemade facial treatments, etc.
Best For: Moms who know pampering and like to organize gift baskets. Also perfect for those who enjoy making their own homemade beauty products.
4. Travel Agency. Setting up trips for people can be quite profitable if you have arrangements with the hotels. Often it’s not worth it to deal in airfares, but you can arrange for lodging and attraction tickets and bring in a tidy profit. You may want to start out focusing on one specific area, such as your home state.
Best For: Web savvy moms who are willing to dedicate time to professional customer service.
5. Reupholstery. Many people are trying to save money now and that means making do with what they have. If you can re-cover chairs and sofas, you’ll have quite a bit of business working with those who aren’t ready to invest in a whole new set, but need to fix up worn chairs.
If you wanted to take this to another level, you could buy garage sale furniture, restore it and then sell on Craigslist or Ebay.
Best For: Handy moms who can handle a staple gun and scissors with confidence.
6. Life Coach. There are many types of coaches. You could specialize in parenting, homeschooling, business . . . any area that you are an expert in. And by expert, I don’t mean have a university degree. Many life coaches are using their own personal experience to help others improve their lives.
You can do everything online, through Skype or phone calls, though some coaches specialize in lower cost email coaching. Offer one on one coaching, or hold teleseminars. You can usually sell audio recordings and ebooks in your niche, as well.
Best For: Moms who like talking on the phone, helping others and who have considerable experience and confidence in the area they plan to coach.

An interesting list. I wouldn’t have thought of more than a few
My girlfriend is thinking about becoming a life coach. The emphasis in this field is on over the phone consultations, making it perfect for the work from home crowd.
I am surprised that there is nothing listed about Direct Sell companies. I am an Independent Stylist with Stella & Dot jewelry and make great money.
The advantage is low personal liability and support materials. Stella & Dot creates all my materials and products, plus offers great support options.

Direct sale companies offer great opportunities for stay at home moms. I know of a few ladies that make at least a part-time salary on them. Also, for those more tech savy, the internet can offer the same benefits of direct selling products and services for other companies via a personal website. I recently ventured into “affiliate marketing” (presenting products of other companies to web viewers) and have just started to make some $.
Great Post, I know my mother would enjoy this post and try to take action on some of the suggestions. Affiliate marketing is a great way for earning money, also creating your own ebooks, and products on a particular field you are an expert in, would be a excellent business venture. For example, if you are good at sewing quilts, than create a video tutorial or small ebook for beginners on how to sew quilts.
wow, i do my work at home and i thank you for these tips.
My 2 cents would be……….. sell stuff online!!! you don’t have to spend much money to get you started and if you are any good you’ll see some cash
This is a great list – more up-to-date and modern ideas than the many lists out there. Can I also suggest: personal chef and wedding planner
