3 Ways to Include Your Husband in Your Business

It`s easy to get caught up in being a work at home mom and doing your business activities while your husband watches from the sidelines. While you may ask your husband to occasionally run a package to the post office or watch the kids while you`re working, including him in other aspects of the business can really help prevent issues in your marriage. Here are 3 ways to do that.

1. Talk to him. Ok, so many guys aren`t that interested in sitting and listening while their wife goes on and on about something, I know my husband tends to tune out after a couple of minutes of my voice. But, letting your guy know what`s going on with your business will help him feel more involved. It doesn`t have to be in depth. I usually make a point of commenting to my husband when I get a new client, or if I`m excited about a project that I`m working on. It lets him understand why I`m suddenly bouncy and he is able to relate.

2. Include him in decisions. While your business decisions might be yours, technically, that doesn`t mean they don`t affect other people. When I`m planning to work harder and longer hours, I know I need my husband on my side. We will sit down to discuss why I want to work more (at the moment, we`re building a bathroom) and he can agree that it`s a worthy cause . . . or not. If he`s helping you make the decisions that will affect the family, he will be more likely to step up when it comes to taking on extra childcare or household duties so you can focus on work.

3. Reward him. Husbands of work at home moms have it rough. Even if they are working, they usually have more responsibilities than a guy who`s wife isn`t working. Around here, my husband takes on a lot of childcare duty and he also does almost all the grocery shopping and a good deal of the cleaning. Letting him know that I appreciate this is the least I can do. Rewards can vary from planning a weekend retreat together to something simpler like his favorite candy tucked into his coat pocket with a love note or even something more materialistic, like buying him that watch he`s been lusting after. And, who knows, it might inspire him to let you know that he appreciates you, too!
