everything for work at home moms

When you work at home and have preschool children, it can be almost impossible to work. Toddlers and babies just need more attention. Period.

Luckily, there are a few ways for you to stay focused on your work, even with a couple of fighting kids battling it out near you or a fussy baby that MUST be rocked in his swing in order to be content.

  1. Work in short bursts of time. Even a two year old can learn to wait five minutes while you finish something up. Set your timer to 10 or 15 minutes and work hard to finish a certain amount of work in that time. If a child interrupts you, tell him that he has to wait until the timer dings. With several of these short time periods, you will actually get something done during the day!

  1. Do easy stuff during waking hours and hard projects after bedtime. I find it next to impossible to write articles when my kids are up, it is just too distracting. So, I write early in the morning, during naps and after they are in bed. During the day, I do easier, non-mentally challenging tasks like promoting my blogs, downloading ebooks and going through my email.

  1. Take time to spend with your children. Even ten or fifteen minutes spent playing with them will make you feel less guilty about working. Also, children often keep playing with the same toy after you get up and go back to work, buying you a bit of time to get stuff done!

Working with small children is never easy. You’ll learn to adapt to the conditions and remember that it does get easier as they get older. (Well, that’s what I’m telling myself anyway!)

Nice list of tips. When I work from home, number 2 tends to be my rule of thumb. I leave the hard stuff for night time.
