10 Ways to Save Ten Minutes

Not enough hours in your day? I´ve been facing that dilemma lately as I struggle with deadlines and all the little things that make up a work at home mom´s life. Just think, if you can save 10 minutes three times a day, you get an extra 30 minutes every day. What could you do with a half hour extra? I know I´d manage to figure out a great way to use it. So, here are ten ways to save ten minutes . . . but you probably won´t use them all in one day!

1. Don´t make breakfast. By pouring a healthy cereal like Raisin Bran or Fitness and Fruits instead of whipping up pancakes, you save those ten minutes. This isn´t necessary every day, but if you want to save time once or twice a week, this is a good way to go.

2. Cut your lunch break short. Getting back to work ten minutes early won´t feel like a huge sacrifice, but you´ll get another ten minutes of productivity.

3. Pre-order your groceries online. Amazon has a handy Grocery service where you can order all your groceries online and even set up monthly or weekly deliveries of items such as diapers or formula so you don´t have to keep running out to the store. Major time saver!

4. Do your banking online. This will actually save you a lot more time, since you don´t have to drive to the bank and stand in line.

5. Invest in a coffee maker if you drink instant. Turn it on in the morning and you save a about 10 minutes throughout the day by not having to heat water and mix your coffee several times. You can also use your coffee pot to heat water for tea or hot chocolate.

6. Get your kids to wash dishes. Offer them monetary payment or extra privileges for doing the chore, but getting yourself out of dish duty gives you a minimum of ten minutes extra.

7. Lay everything out before you get the kids into the bath in the evening. You can then take them out, dry, diaper and dress immediately instead of going to find pajamas and then having to chase rambunctious youngsters all over the house.

8. Check your emails just twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. It might be hard to get in the habit of not constantly going through your inbox, but by being able to focus on the task completely instead of taking the time to open it various times throughout the day, you will definitely save time.

9. Take typing lessons. There are many typing class software options out there and if you are a touch typer, or just not as fast as you´d like to be, it is worth the investment in time. By typing even 10-20 words per minute faster, you´ll find yourself saving time in the long run.

10. Turn your phone off for an hour. Whether you do this after your work day is done or first thing in the morning to start your day off right, turning your phone off can be a very good way to save ten minutes!
