10 Ways to Find New Friends on StumbleUpon
Like all social media sites, StumbleUpon only works if you have friends. While this is an area that I am still working on, I thought I`d share a few ways to gain new, quality friends on the site.
- Befriend people your existing friends know. If you have somone on your contact list that is friendly and marketing-savvy, chances are they have friends with similar qualities.
- Look for interesting pages. When you find a page that has been stumbled that you really enjoy or find useful, check out who “discovered” it. You can see who first stumbled the site by clicking on the review button (looks like a blank speech bubble on the toolbar) and look in the upper right corner. Just click on their thumbnail.
- Browse keywords. Are you interested in marketing? Crafts? Do a search for users with these interests listed.
- Find friends from other sites. If you`re on Twitter, Facebook or just about any other social network site, just ask people what their SU name is and add them there, as well. You`ll have quality friends that you already know.
- Broadcast yourself. Use Twitter, your blog and email, as well as forum signature lines to link to your profile on SU. This is a good way to go if you only have a few minutes a day to deal with this sort of thing, people will find you.
- Review pages. Though you might not realize it, every time you actually review a page on StumbleUpon (as opposed to just thumbing it), you`re giving people another view of you and giving them a chance to befriend you.
- Discover pages. Many bloggers will check out who has been kind enough to send them all that traffic, so when you stumble a blog post (like this one, for example, hint hint) and the blog owner checks out where all the traffic is coming from, you have a very good chance of getting more friends.
- Read blogs and befriend them. Many bloggers will add their StumbleUpon profile to their blog (mine is here) and people reading can add them as friends.
- Import from your IM and email contacts. If you click on the “Friends” button on the SU toolbar, you`ll be given the option of importing contacts from other areas, like MSN, Yahoo and Gmail.
- Leave a comment here. If you`re interested in getting more friends on StumbleUpon, then leave a comment below with your StumbleUpon user name. Add other commenters to your friends and we can all enjoy gaining some WAHM buddies on SU.
I believe that twitter has become the # 1 way to find new friends. Although the posts are short, it is a quick way to find like minded people, transfer to face book and develop relationships. I don’t mind the spam some of those adds are very interesting. You can find me at gameringer
I haven’t been paying much attention to StumbleUpon because I seem to be getting barraged by MLMers asking me to “like” their MLM video updates on YouTube.
As you mentioned on your self-promotion post ( http://athomemomblog.com/how-much-self-promotion-is-too-much/comment-page-1/#comment-60347 ) some people really don’t seem to get it.
You know I hate to admit this but I have been a member of StumbleUpon for several months now and I didn’t even know how it works! Thanks for the great info.
