10 Ways to Destress in 10 Minutes
I’ve done destressing posts before, but considering the week I’ve just had, I thought it was high time for another one!
1. Have a cup of tea. It’s actually really good to look at some herbal tea or flavored ones that will help relax you. And a cup of coffee, while energizing, isn’t nearly as good.
2. Take a shower. There’s something about hot water pouring over you that helps you think clearer and relax. Also, I find that if I don’t shower for a day, I get very irritable!
3. Lock yourself in the bathroom with your iPod. Crank some soothing music to drown out the shouts from children who think it’s unfair of you to even think about something besides them and enjoy two songs.
4. Indulge in something sweet. Yes, emotional eating is bad and I’m a very good example of that, but the truth is that when you are super stressed, it’s not a good time to diet! Opt for a low cal sweet, but let yourself indulge (in ONE) and you’ll feel much better.
5. Take a stroll. Just go around the block and you’ll be far more relaxed.
6. Play with a pet. Did you know that dogs are a great way to destress? Your dog will love that you spend 10 minutes to hang out with him and you’ll get the benefits of being calmer.
7. Make a list. Then make a plan. If you have a list of everything you need to do and can prioritize it, you’re off to a good start. If you’re feeling paralyzed as to how to start, enlist the help of a friend.
8. Read an article. Whether online or in a magazine, an article is just the right length for a quick chill out.
9. Spin. No, seriously, try it. Spin around a few times like a little kid, collapse dizzily onto the couch and I can almost guarantee you’ll be laughing and laughing is excellent for destressing. Highly recommended to do this one with a kid.
10. Eat something. A quick snack will raise your blood sugar and make you feel much better.
