10 Videos You Won`t Feel Guilty Letting Your Kids Watch

There are a few people who manage to completely eliminate television from their homes, but the majority of us end up resorting to a movie or favorite show from time to time. When you have a deadline and cranky kids, an episode of Blue`s Clues might be just the thing to give you a few quiet moments.

I`ve found that having DVDs on hand is the best way to deal with these situations. There are no ads and my sons are watching only what I want them to watch . . . rather than staying on one channel and being exposed to whatever comes on. So, I`ve put together a list of ten videos for kids that are guilt-free. Please feel free to share your favorites in the comments and we`ll all benefit!

Toddlers and Preschoolers

1. Hi 5.
These videos come with several episodes and it`s the one kid show that I don`t find annoying when they sing. Kids love to dance with the actors onscreen and sing along, plus they have really neat themes and act out stories.

2. Baby Einstein.
If you have preschoolers, this might be a bit young for them, but my 3 year old enjoys the Baby Einstein videos. The musical ones are particularly popular in our house. They teach kids new ideas and concepts and there is a whole range of products, including books.

3. Elmo’s World.
These videos take the world`s cutest red monster and have him teach kids about body parts, clothing and more. Definitely a fun way to have your little ones learning while you get a little work done!

4. Mary Poppins.
With the dancing and singing, this is a great movie for little kids and it`s also about as G rated as you can get! There`s no time like the present to get your kids interested in older cinema and encourage them to use their imaginations.

5. Sesame Street.
This show has been around for so long we often forget about it, but the truth is that Sesame Street is still pretty wholesome entertainment for small kids.

School Age Kids

6. Happy Feet
This is a neat movie that teaches kids about the life of penguins. If your kids are interested, there is a sister documentary that is fascinating, March of the Penguins. Educational, but very entertaining at the same time.

7. Wall-E
If you`re looking to promote some environmental causes, this is a great way to start. Kids enjoy this movie about two robots who work together to bring human beings back to the planet Earth.

8. The Adventures of Milo & Otis
This classic flick about a puppy and a kitten who befriend each other and have a series of adventures is amazing. Seriously, you might not even get any work done because you`re watching it yourself! It`s shot with two very cute little animals and their expressions are just priceless.

Newsies9. Newsies.
Note that this movie does have some slightly rude language in it, but it`s still quite appropriate for kids. A musical set in New York, this movie features a very young Christian Bale as a “newsie” or one of the young street kids who sold newspapers in the late 1800`s. In 1899, they held a strike to get better pay and Newsies tells this story in a neat way . . . it`s entertainment and history all at once. Not to mention the songs are really great!

10. The Spiderwick Chronicles.
This fantastical story is based on a book by the same name and it`s an exciting blend of fairies, goblins and other mystical creatures. For any kid who loves fantasy and adventure, this is a great movie, plus it`s nice and clean, though some of the monsters might frighten smaller children.
